9/27/2017 0 Comments frenchGuys we still live in the stone age with no Internet. So I apologize for the lack of posts. I have a novel ready to be written (lucky for you eh?) So I'm currently sitting creepily in the library, yet again. I was becoming to familiar at Tim's.
Jackson has been in school for about a month. He is attending one of the local schools in the French immersion program. So far we love it! The teachers all know his name (not sure if that's a good thing or not) and he loves going. When I pick him up each day I've learned to take the long way home (which is 5 minutes instead of 0.01) so I can hear all about his day. He tells me about who he plays with, throws in the names of kids who got in trouble, never mentions anything he learns, and usually some sort of bathroom story. Shiloh also pipes up with who she played with, who her teacher is, what she learned. Her days always sound amazing but given that she was with me all day I'm always a little confused/concerned. We've only had one accident (please don't ask. Buuut it was bad enough to have the teachers gagging and him proud as a peacock)! Success right?! But I am regaled with tales of intentionally peeing on the floor and heroically wiping one's mess without help. He likes to pack his lunch every day and has not yet run of out ways to ''ask'' for more snacks. My baby is all grown up. Today he talked a mile a minute about how he learned about Terry Fox today. He couldn't say enough about the man who had his leg cut off by the doctor ("a whole lot even though he only wanted a little off") and then "he got a robot leg". Jackson was also determined that we knew how Terry Fox ran, so he ran around the room doing his best imitation until his sister too had mastered the Fox run. It only ended when Jackson stated "I'm turning 67" and proceeded to ''die like Terry Fox''. He hummed some song at supper that I couldn't decipher through the tunelessness that apparently was the Terry Fox song. People often ask us about how he is doing in the French program. Well. He's 4. So if he could learn to write his full name by the end of the year I'm celebrating! His current response to ''what letter is this?'' is "It's not a J. So I don't know". The first couple days he came home he kept saying people were talking funny. Bud, that's French. Last week a classmate had a birthday and Jackson was came home a little upset. He proceeded to sing Happy Birthday in his beautifully off key voice and state that is how you sing it. However at school they sang it ''cha cha cha''. Once again my love, that's French (bonne fete....etc etc). Today he was so proud to announce that he knows what 'bonjour' means so now every time someone says it to him he stops talking. He thought it meant be quiet. So... I may have some explaining to do as to why my child shuts up as soon as someone says bonjour. But when my boy came home today and was able to count to 13 (13!!!!) in flawless French (okay, it's nerf not neuf) this mama was more than a little proud! He even did so with little help on the phone to my mom which is an amazing accomplishment of itself! So... in summary French immersion is great! They talk funny, constantly tell people to be quiet and can count. Yay Jackson!

9/7/2017 0 Comments the beginning of an eraI got through that emotional sentimental milestone every mother dreams of and dreads all at the same time. My baby started school!
I was a little apprehensive given his last remarks about his teacher's lack of human qualities. So I forced my poor son (who absolutely hates shopping) to go pick out lunch 'equipment' and lunch snacks. We packed his lunch the night before, picked out his outfit and tried to get a good night's sleep. And of course Shiloh needed to pack her lunch and pick out her outfit too. We got up this morning, got ready and were suuuuper early for his first day. We got to school and he became a bundle of nerves. My poor little child wouldn't let my hand go and I had to walk him upstairs to his class and bribe him with his indoor shoes. Ah my poor heart! Meanwhile his sister was sassing her way through the playground, complete with bright Elsa sweater, bright pink pants and red ballet shoes. And of course her unicorn backpack with her very own lunch. And if that wasn't enough she made sure to tell Jackson where to go, who to listen to and what to do in school. Apparently she's the expert. But he did it! He survived and actually enjoyed himself! He talked for about half an hour non stop about everything that happened. Including the fact that he peed a little on the bathroom floor but didn't tell anyone because he wanted someone to step in it. Apparently that's hilarious. His poor teachers. But he met some new friends, some he already decided he didn't really like, played some fun games and even drew a picture of our family (the drawing apparently reluctantly included Shiloh). He even got to hunt through the school for Pete the Cat's shoes! He told me he was shy and a little scared but was brave and kind, which was exactly what I wanted to hear because I've been drilling that into his head like crazy. But after he told me Harper threw Shiloh off the chair, I'm a little worried about his truth telling abilities. But he wants to go back tomorrow so that's a success right?! And Shiloh shared about her day at school today. She sat with her friend David and played some games and drew some pictures. She was a little shy but became more brave as the day went on. It thundered at her school but there was a jungle inside that kept her warm. She's also the tallest in her class and has a pet dinosaur that she is allowed to bring to school. It's fascinating really, because I thought for sure she came with me to Costco this morning and cleaned the house this afternoon. Guess I was wrong. And after being home for 10 minutes the screaming and fighting continued and I long for tomorrow's school. But also want him to stay home forever. Does this flip flopping feeling ever go away?! |
