7/22/2018 0 Comments summer timeHow on earth is July almost over?! It's madness!!! So here's a jumble of a post of chaotic summer thoughts.
I feel like summers with kids in school are just a big jumble of trying to avoid any organized activity that remotely resembles school, taking every opportunity given and being outside outside outside. And then realizing your kids have a massive love/hate relationship, your son has lost his entire ability to participate in a structured conversation and that being outside all day makes super tired (read cranky) children. And holy Moses does time fly. Especially when you are working. Do the long dog days of summer even exist anymore?! I remember endless lazy days of being *gasp* bored in the summer. Now I don't remember what it feels like to have nothing, literally nothing, to do. Guilty confession. I didn't even formalize my summer bucket list on paper. Ugh! Such a failure! But we have been enjoying some pretty amazing things. We started off the summer by starting our own end of the school year tradition. Pizza Hut at the beach!! It was pretty amazing, I mean who doesn't love filling up on seriously deep fried pizza and then floating like a blob in the water. And of course the kids didn't care so much about eating as they did about the water. But we also discovered our property is overrun by fireflies come end of June! Guys, it's pure magic. It literally never gets old for me. There are thousands of fireflies all flickering. I don't even know where to look. Normally the kids are in bed by the time you can really see them so we decided to keep them up one night. Jackson caught one every 5 seconds - we fulfilled a childhood rite of passage by collecting a mason jar full of fireflies. And killing them all before they could light up like in the movies. We watched the bats swoop closer and closer and threw up sticks for them to target. I'm obsessed with the fireflies and try to get my kids to understand their magic. And Jackson.. oh Jackson. "Fireflies aren't magical Mom. They just have lights in their buts." Well buddy if my butt did what theirs did you'd be calling me magical. Or something.
